The AEMO Scholarship

Pierce College - Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction
Spring 2026 Term
The AEMO Scholarship supports students enrolling in Spring 2026 courses at Pierce College’s Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction. Taught by experienced emergency management professionals, these virtual courses offer the same exceptional quality found in Pierce College's degree programs while giving learners worldwide the flexibility to grow their skills and networks. Courses cover AI in emergency management, accessibility, psychological impacts of disasters, evaluation strategies, and incident leadership (offered in Spanish). Many courses may also count toward continuing education requirements for professional certifications.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be applying for at least one Spring 2026 IDRR course
- Demonstrated financial need or professional barriers to training
- Commitment to emergency management, resilience, or preparedness
- Required: A 300–500 word essay on why you should receive the scholarship
- Open to students, volunteers, career transitioners, and early-career professionals with 0–3 years of experience.
Application Requirements:
- Completed online scholarship application form
- Short essay (300–500 words) explaining why you should receive the scholarship and how the course will support your goals
- Optional: Short essay (150 - 250 words) describing Financial Need / Professional Barriers
- Selected course for Spring 2026
- Optional: Résumé and/or LinkedIn profile
Note: Applicants with 0–3 years of experience may demonstrate financial need or professional barriers in their essay.
Scholarship Coverage
The AEMO Scholarship may fully or partially cover course fees, depending on available funds. 1–3 recipients will be selected, and award amounts will be communicated at the time of selection.
