Volunteer Positions
We currently are seeking the following volunteer positions.
NEW! Interim Board Secretary
Commitment: 3 months and an opprotunity to become a full board member.

Aspiring Emergency Managers Online (AEMO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and educating individuals pursuing careers in emergency management. Through a dynamic network, AEMO provides resources, mentorship, and opportunities to help aspiring professionals thrive in the field.Role Overview:
AEMO is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented leader to serve as our Interim Board Secretary. In this volunteer role, you’ll play a key part in supporting AEMO’s governance by maintaining accurate records, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, and assisting with organizational communication. The Board Secretary helps ensure transparency, accountability, and smooth operations for our nonprofit as we continue to serve and empower our community of over 4,500 members.Responsibilities:
- Assures that an agenda has been prepared by the board chair and/or CEO and that the agenda is distributed in advance of the meeting
- Oversees the distribution of background information for agenda items to be discussed
- Prepares the official minutes of the meeting and records motions, discussions, votes, and decisions
- Prepares and provides the previous meeting’s written minutes to board members before the next meeting and records any changes or corrections
- Assures documents (bylaws, Form-990, roaster of board members) are accessible to members
- Schedules and notifies board members of upcoming meetings
- Holds members accountable for their tasks
Qualifications:
- Highly organized to manage board documents, schedules, and meeting logistics effectively
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in meeting minutes, official documents, and records to maintain compliance and transparency
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing non-profit organizations
- Ethical integrity
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and situations
- Proficient with office software, such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom/MS Teams, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving skills

Through a dynamic network, AEMO provides resources, mentorship, and opportunities to help aspiring professionals thrive in the field.Role Overview:
AEMO is seeking passionate and skilled writers to join our volunteer blogging team. As a Blogger, you’ll craft engaging content aligned with AEMO's mission, including topics such as career tips, industry trends, personal stories, and professional development resources for emergency management. Your work will contribute to educating and empowering our community of over 4,500 members.Responsibilities:
- Write and submit 1-2 well-researched, original blog posts per month (400–800 words).
- Collaborate with AEMO’s team to align content with organizational goals and audience interests.
- Incorporate feedback and edits into blog posts as needed.
- Stay informed about emergency management trends to create relevant and insightful content.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Knowledge of or interest in emergency management, disaster preparedness, or related fields.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Experience with blogging, content creation, or storytelling is a plus but not required.
