  • Pierce College - Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction

    Spring 2026 Term

  • The AEMO Scholarship covers tuition for select Spring 2026 courses (100% online) that build practical, community-centered emergency management skills. Depending on available funds, 1–3 recipients may receive up to $1,145 to cover all eligible courses or to enroll in individual courses based on their interests.

    This scholarship supports students enrolling in Spring 2026 courses through Pierce College’s Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDRR). Led by experienced emergency management professionals, these virtual courses deliver the same high-quality education found in Pierce College’s degree programs, while providing flexibility for learners worldwide to strengthen their skills and expand their networks.

    • Exercise Evaluation for Emergency Management
    • Planning to Support People with Access and Funtional Needs
    • Psychology of Disaster & Community Resilience
    • Liderazgo en Incidentes y Coordinación Interinstitucional
      (Incident Leadership & Multi-Agency Coordination – Spanish)

    Course Catalog

    Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

    • Must be applying for at least one Spring 2026 IDRR course
    • Demonstrated financial need or professional barriers to training
    • Commitment to emergency management, resilience, or preparedness
    • Required: A 300–500 word essay on why you should receive the scholarship
    • Open to students, volunteers, career transitioners, and early-career professionals with 0–3 years of experience.

    Application Requirements:

    • Completed online scholarship application form
    • Short essay (300–500 words) explaining why you should receive the scholarship and how the course will support your goals
    • Optional: Short essay (150 - 250 words) describing Financial Need / Professional Barriers
    • Selected course for Spring 2026
    • Optional: Résumé and/or LinkedIn profile

    Note: Applicants with 0–3 years of experience may demonstrate financial need or professional barriers in their essay.

    Scholarship Coverage

    The AEMO Scholarship may fully or partially cover course fees, depending on available funds. 1–3 recipients will be selected, and award amounts will be communicated at the time of selection.

    Scholarship Timeline:

    • Application Opens:
      December 2025
    • Application Deadline:
      February 15, 2026
    • Review & Selection Period:
      February 16 – March 10, 2026
    • Recipient Announcement:
      March 15, 2026
    • Spring 2026 Term Begins:
      April 6, 2026 - Exact course dates will be announced closer to the term start

    Scholarship Use Policy:

    Scholarship funds will be paid directly to Pierce College and applied to the recipient’s selected Spring 2026 course(s) once IDRR opens enrollment. Recipients must register when notified. If a recipient does not use the scholarship after enrollment opens, funds may be reallocated to other applicants. Unused funds cannot be carried over to future terms.

    Scholarship Availability:

    Awarding of scholarships is dependent on available funds. If sufficient funds are not raised, AEMO may adjust the number of recipients or postpone awards. All applicants will be notified if this occurs.
